I recently had the chance to create a Professional Line Photobook from Saal Digital. A number of different formats were available, with a default number of pages which can be expanded later. All sizes come in the standard or XT versions, which has much thicker pages. Because of this these will have significantly less pages. I chose the 30x30 option, the 2nd largest available. There are several options to create your book: you can upload a pdf, have it created automatically, or use Saal's software to design it yourself. The latter was the option I chose.

The software is pretty flexible, with a lot of templates and automation combined with a lot of manual tools to customise layouts, text and images. You can go with several different look and feels, although I found a lot of these a little distracting and although would have been good for a book of family memories, I would have appreciated some simpler, sleeker designs for professional use.

I took a very manual approach to the design, using some of the layout templates, of which there are many many options, as a basis. It was easy to create what I wanted and I didn't feel like the software got in the way at all of what I was trying to create.

The product itself is fantastic. I chose the black leather binding, acrylic cover matt paper and no box, but there are a number of different options to customise the creation and materials of the book. The printing quality is fantastic, with good quality paper and the colour reproduction being spot on from what I was seeing on my computer screen. I also love the acrylic cover, it is quite a unique feature and really sets the book apart. I would definitely recommend using Saal - check them out at http://www.saal-digital.co.uk
